Strengthening NGO Compliance and Financial Governance: Reflections from MANTHAN 2026

Strengthening NGO Compliance and Financial Governance: Reflections from MANTHAN 2026
On 8 October 2026, I had the opportunity to participate in MANTHAN – A Dialogue on Compliance in Civil Society Organisations, organised by the Financial Management Service Foundation (FMSF), New Delhi, under its NGO Account Network (NAN) initiative at Hotel Sayaji, Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
The programme brought together representatives of voluntary organisations to discuss emerging regulatory requirements, compliance challenges, and practical solutions for strengthening financial management and institutional governance.
The sessions covered several important topics:
🔹 Income Tax Compliance: Detailed insights into evolving income tax provisions, along with an interactive discussion addressing participants’ questions and concerns.
🔹 FCRA Requirements, Compliance and Practices: Updates on FCRA-related changes, common compliance challenges faced by NGOs, and practical approaches to addressing them.
🔹 Foreign Contribution (Regulation Amendment Rules), 2026: A point-by-point discussion on the relevant provisions and their implications for civil society organisations.
🔹 New Labour Codes Compliance: An overview of compliance requirements under the new labour codes and their relevance to NGO operations.
The programme provided a valuable platform for participants to share their institutional experiences, discuss practical difficulties, and seek expert guidance. The resource persons — Mr. Sanjay Patra, Mr. Suresh Kejriwal, and Mr. Amrish Gupta — offered useful insights and responded to participants’ queries with practical perspectives.
The interactive discussions made the workshop particularly valuable, helping participants better understand compliance obligations and explore ways to strengthen their organisational systems.
Representing Anmol Foundation, I found the programme highly informative and relevant to the evolving needs of civil society organisations. Such dialogues are essential for promoting transparency, accountability, sound financial management, and good governance in the development sector.
My sincere appreciation to FMSF and the organisers for creating this meaningful learning and knowledge-sharing platform.
