Empowering TB Champions Through Access to Government Welfare Schemes

A meaningful two-day State-Level Review Meeting of TB Champions – Chhattisgarh was organized by REACH Chennai – Chhattisgarh Unit on 31 August and 1 September 2026 at Hotel Aditya, Raipur.

I was privileged to be invited as a Resource Person on behalf of Anmol Foundation to facilitate a session on Government Welfare Schemes and Social Protection Services available to TB Champions, TB-affected individuals and their families.

The session went beyond simply introducing government schemes. It focused on how people can actually access these services—understanding eligibility, application procedures, required documents and the appropriate government department or institution to approach.

The discussion covered schemes and services of several departments, including Health, Agriculture, Panchayat & Rural Development, Legal Services, Police, Women & Child Development, Horticulture, Fisheries, Social Welfare, Forest & Climate Change, Sericulture, Animal Husbandry, Labour, Food, Education, Solar Energy and Electricity.

An interactive discussion with TB Champions helped identify practical challenges faced by communities while accessing government support. Their questions were addressed with a focus on developing their capacity to guide, facilitate and connect vulnerable families with appropriate welfare services.

From Awareness to Access

For TB-affected families, recovery is not only about medical treatment. Nutrition, livelihood, social security, legal support, housing, employment and access to government entitlements are equally important for achieving sustainable recovery and dignity.

Empowered and well-informed TB Champions can become an important bridge between communities and government welfare systems.

I am grateful to REACH Chennai – Chhattisgarh Unit for providing me the opportunity to contribute to this important capacity-building initiative.
